From using Copilot to building copilots

Copilot Studio is where you build your own AI. TESS trains teams to use it to create custom copilots and agents that answer questions from your data and take actions in your systems, as a focused workshop, or within a levy-funded apprenticeship where your people build and deploy real agents over the programme. The workshop gets you started; the apprenticeship gets working automation into your business.

If your team has got value from Microsoft Copilot and now wants to build something tailored, custom copilots for your help desk, your policies, your processes, Copilot Studio is the tool, and knowing how to design, connect and govern an agent safely is the skill that makes it pay off.

Two ways to learn Copilot Studio

Workshop

Copilot Studio workshop

Hands-on, build your first copilot in a day.

  • Half or full day, live online or in person
  • Build a working copilot against your own use case
  • Ideal for a fast, practical start
  • A direct commercial investment, not levy funded
Levy funded

Within an AI apprenticeship

Build and deploy real agents, funded by your levy.

  • Part of the AI & Automation Level 4
  • Your team designs, builds, governs and ships agents against real work
  • Levy funded for levy payers; government funded for most SMEs
  • The route that produces working automation, not just a demo
New to agents? Start with our plain-English guide to what AI agents are and how they work, then come back here to build one. See what your levy could fund.

What your team learns

The full path from idea to a deployed, governed copilot.

Designing a useful copilot

Scoping a copilot that solves a real problem, the most common reason builds fail is starting with the tool, not the task.

Connecting your knowledge

Grounding a copilot in your documents, SharePoint and data so its answers are accurate and current.

Topics, actions & agents

Building conversation topics and connecting actions so your copilot does things, not just answers.

Testing and reliability

How to test a copilot properly so it behaves before it reaches real users.

Governance & safety

Permissions, data boundaries and human oversight, building agents your IT and risk teams will sign off.

Deploying to Teams & the web

Publishing your copilot where people already work, and maintaining it over time.

Is Copilot Studio training levy funded?

A standalone Copilot Studio workshop is a direct commercial investment, not levy funded. But the same build-and-deploy skills, taught and assessed inside the AI & Automation apprenticeship, are levy funded for levy payers and government funded for most smaller employers.

See how to use your levy for AI training, or explore Microsoft Copilot training if your team is still at the using stage.

Frequently asked questions

Do you offer Copilot Studio training?

Yes. TESS trains UK teams to build custom copilots and agents in Microsoft Copilot Studio, as a hands-on workshop or built into a levy-funded AI apprenticeship where your people ship real agents over the programme.

Is Copilot Studio training levy funded?

A standalone workshop is a commercial investment and is not levy funded. The same build-and-deploy skills inside the AI and Automation apprenticeship are levy funded for levy payers and government funded for most SMEs.

Do we need to be developers?

No. Copilot Studio is a low-code tool, so your existing team can build with it. The real skill is designing, connecting and governing a copilot well, which is exactly what we teach.

What will my team be able to build?

Custom copilots grounded in your own data, with conversation topics and connected actions, for example a help-desk copilot, a policy assistant, or an agent that handles a repetitive internal process, deployed into Teams or your website.

How does this relate to Microsoft Copilot training?

Copilot training is about using Copilot productively; Copilot Studio training is about building your own copilots and agents. Many teams do the first, then progress to the second. We cover both.
