What you leave with

Your 90-Day Transformation Plan + Pilot Charter + Workforce Impact Assessment.

Three working artefacts. A 90-day plan with named owners and milestones. A pilot charter you can run on Monday. A workforce impact assessment your CHRO will recognise. All ready for sponsor sign-off by Day 4.

The 4 days

Where AI initiatives turn into business reality. Or fade in the backlog.

Most AI projects don't fail technically. They fail at delivery, at workforce communication, at scaling. This unit is built around exactly those failure modes, and uses your real initiative as the case study.

This is one example layout. For closed cohorts (8+) we tailor the format around your operating rhythm: half-days, evenings, two-day blocks, split delivery across sites. Same 30 hours, same outcomes, your shape.
1
DAY 1

AI Change Lab, Leading Transformation

What's covered
  • Bring one real AI initiative your team is delivering: we work it through the four days
  • Map current vs future state of the workflow. Honestly, including the bits that don't work
  • Identify dependencies, decision rights and the real blockers (often human, not technical)
  • Draft a 90-day pilot charter: goal, success criteria, owners, milestones
  • Practise the “why now” pitch to your team. The one that builds genuine buy-in
By the end of Day 1A 90-day pilot charter for a real AI initiative, with success criteria your sponsor will agree to.
2
DAY 2

Workforce & Ecosystem Impact

What's covered
  • Algorithmic impact assessment, what the EHRC and ICO expect
  • Three buckets for every role: tasks to automate, augment, deepen
  • Workforce equality and employment law. The legal frame around AI-driven role change
  • Reskilling, role redesign, displacement responses. The honest conversation
  • Wider ecosystem: suppliers, digitally-excluded groups, brand reputation
By the end of Day 2A draft Workforce Impact Assessment for your initiative, surfacing risks early enough to mitigate.
3
DAY 3

Risk, Audit, Compliance & Monitoring

What's covered
  • Crisis and risk-management strategies for AI initiatives that go wrong (because some will)
  • Incident and security response planning. The playbook for the day the model misbehaves
  • Long-term monitoring: model drift, emerging bias, degraded performance, security vulnerabilities
  • Audit-ready documentation. What to keep, where to keep it, who signs it
  • Decide your monitoring cadence and your “kill switch” criteria
By the end of Day 3A monitoring plan, escalation pathway, and incident-response playbook for your AI initiative.
4
DAY 4

Storytelling, Communication & Scaling

What's covered
  • Communicate AI risks and opportunities to four audiences: team, peers, exec, regulators
  • The “what AI does and doesn't do” template, reusable across emails, decks, briefings
  • Translate technical concepts into accessible material. The skill that scales transformation
  • Move from pilot to programme: scaling triggers, governance handoffs, value tracking
  • Sponsor sign-off session, walk away with the 90-Day Plan agreed
By the end of Day 4Your full Unit 3 deliverable: 90-Day Plan + Pilot Charter + Workforce Impact Assessment, sponsor-signed.

Meet Coachy — your learners’ AI tutor, 24/7 between sessions.

Coachy is the Claude-powered AI tutor we built specifically for apprenticeship learners. Every TESS L5 AI Apprenticeship Unit comes with Coachy in your learners’ pockets — so when they’re drafting their AI Strategy on a Page at 9pm, or stress-testing a Risk Register before their next session, they’re not stuck waiting until the next live day.

  • Always-on coaching: assessment prep, framework recall, prompt practice — on demand, between live days.
  • Trained on the L5 AI standards: Coachy knows AU0009/10/11 inside out, including the Skills England KSBs.
  • Safe by design: employer-controlled, no data leakage to public models, audit-trail friendly.
  • Built on Anthropic Claude: the same model used as a vendor variant inside the unit itself.

Frequently asked

AI Apprenticeship Units: straight answers.

Do I need an AI initiative already running to take this?

Ideally yes. The unit works best when you bring a real initiative. But it's not required. If you don't have one yet, we'll work through a realistic scenario tailored to your sector for the four days.

Is this the unit for transformation directors?

Yes, and for the heads of function delivering AI in their area, programme managers running cross-team initiatives, and senior managers with a pilot they need to scale.

Does this stack with the other units?

Yes. Most clients take all three. Unit 1 sets direction, Unit 2 builds responsible-adoption infrastructure, Unit 3 delivers transformation. Total: £2,250 fully funded for the complete pathway.

What about communicating with our regulators?

Day 4 explicitly covers regulator communication, how to explain AI risks and decisions to the FCA, ICO, CQC, MoD, NHS England, etc. We tailor this to your sector for closed cohorts.

How does this connect to the workforce planning we already do?

The Workforce Impact Assessment is designed to plug into your existing workforce-planning processes. Not replace them. Most clients run it through the same governance their org already uses for restructure or role-design exercises.

Can we use the 90-Day Plan as our actual project plan?

Yes, that's the point. It's not a learning artefact, it's a working document. Most clients adopt the plan they leave with as their actual operational delivery plan.

Move from AI pilot to AI programme.
