CMI Unit 621 Professional Coaching Supervision (14 credits, 140 hours total qualification time, 44 guided learning hours) is delivered live online, supported by a named tutor, and assessed against CMI's Level 6 standard.

Planning and delivering supervision to real supervisees, recording outcomes, critically reflecting on them, and creating your development plan as a professional coach supervisor.

How you are assessed

Supervise at least two coaches over a minimum of three sessions of 60–90 minutes, with at least one session per supervisee observed by an experienced coach supervisor, plus around 5,000 words of written work and work-based evidence.

Is this an Award, Certificate or Diploma?
CMI offers Professional Coach Supervision at Level 6 as a Certificate only (CMI code 6C31, Ofqual qualification number 610/0909/X). It is 14 credits and 140 hours of total qualification time, built around a single unit, 621 Professional Coaching Supervision. There is no Award or Diploma version of this qualification; the Certificate is the full qualification.
What are the entry requirements?
This is an advanced, Level 6 qualification for experienced coaches developing supervisory practice. Most learners join with a Level 5 coaching & mentoring qualification or substantial coaching experience. You will also need access to at least two coaches to supervise during the programme, because CMI's assessment is based on real supervision practice. We confirm the right fit on a quick discovery call.
How long does it take?
At TESS the CMI Level 6 Certificate in Professional Coach Supervision typically takes 6–9 months of blended, flexible study. The qualification is 14 credits and 140 hours of total qualification time (44 guided learning hours), built to fit around your practice.
How is it assessed?
Assessment is practice-based. You supervise at least two coaches over a minimum of three sessions of 60–90 minutes, with at least one session per supervisee observed by an experienced coach supervisor (in person, virtually or recorded). Alongside this you submit around 5,000 words of written work plus work-based evidence such as supervision plans, session records and reflective accounts. Grading is pass or refer.

It is built for experienced coaches and mentors developing the supervisory practice to support and develop other coaches, the natural next step after a Level 5 coaching & mentoring qualification.
What does it lead to?
CMI is the UK's chartered body for management and leadership. This qualification establishes you as a professional coach supervisor. Can it be funded through the apprenticeship levy?
We price this qualification separately from our apprenticeships and do not treat it as levy-funded. Where your coaches are progressing from a TESS apprenticeship such as Coaching Professional Level 5, we agree progression pricing with you on the discovery call.
