What your team will leave with

From pilots and proofs-of-concept to governed production agents.

Microsoft Foundry is where Microsoft is putting its enterprise AI effort. This day takes a technical team from familiar Copilot territory into building on it properly.

01 · Platform fluency

Know exactly where Foundry sits against Copilot Studio, Azure OpenAI and Power Platform, and which of your workloads belongs on which.

02 · Agent engineering

Build an agent in Foundry Agent Service: model selection, system design, tool binding, function calling and structured outputs, all deployed to your own Azure tenant.

03 · Enterprise grounding

Ground agents in your real estate (SharePoint, OneLake, Azure Data Lake) through Foundry IQ, with Purview governance and permission-aware retrieval intact.

04 · Multi-agent orchestration

Coordinate specialist agents with the Microsoft Agent Framework: supervisor/worker patterns, hand-offs, and when a single well-built agent beats a swarm.

05 · Governance & observability

Run agents like software: Foundry Control Plane, Entra Agent ID, evaluation pipelines, tracing and audit trails your security and compliance teams will accept.

06 · The rollout plan

Leave with a costed 90-day plan: candidate workloads ranked, token economics modelled, environment design agreed and owners named.

What you'll actually build

Two real builds, not a demo.

These are the reference builds the day is structured around. Both deploy to your tenant, and both get adapted live to a workload you bring with you.

Build A · Morning

Policy-aware knowledge agent

An agent that answers staff questions from your real policy and procedure documents in SharePoint. It respects existing file permissions, cites its sources and refuses questions outside its scope. The build most compliance teams approve first.

Stack: Foundry Agent Service · Foundry IQ over SharePoint · Purview classification · evaluation pipeline
Build B · Afternoon

Multi-agent triage workflow

A supervisor agent that receives incoming requests (invoices, tickets, enquiries), routes them to two specialist worker agents, escalates edge cases to a human, and logs every decision for audit. The pattern behind most production agent deployments.

Stack: Microsoft Agent Framework · supervisor/worker pattern · Entra Agent ID · Control Plane tracing
Supervisor agent
Receives, classifies, routes & escalates
↓   ↓
Worker agent 1
Processes standard cases end-to-end
Worker agent 2
Handles exceptions · human-in-the-loop
FOUNDRY IQ · SHAREPOINT · ONELAKE · PERMISSION-AWARE RETRIEVAL
GOVERNANCE: PURVIEW · ENTRA AGENT ID · CONTROL PLANE · EVALUATIONS & AUDIT
Two Microsoft days, two audiences

Copilot Studio or Foundry?

Most larger clients run both: Copilot Studio for the makers in the business, Foundry for the engineering team that owns the platform. Here's the progression.

Step 1 · Makers

Copilot Studio in a Day

Low-code agents inside Microsoft 365, built by power users. No coding.

Step 2 · Engineers · This workshop

Microsoft Foundry for Enterprise

Pro-code, governed, production agents on the platform itself.

Copilot Studio in a Day

Low-code makers.

Agents inside Microsoft 365, built by your power users.

  • No coding, graphical agent builder
  • Grounded in SharePoint and M365 content
  • Power Automate actions and approvals
  • Best for ops leads, M365 admins, Copilot champions
Take this if: the people building are business-side makers. See the Copilot Studio day →
Microsoft Foundry · This Workshop

Pro-code engineers.

Production agents on the enterprise AI platform itself.

  • Pro-code: SDKs, Python/C#, CI/CD-ready
  • Full model choice: OpenAI, Anthropic, open-weights
  • Foundry IQ grounding with Purview governance
  • Control Plane, Entra Agent ID, evaluations, audit
  • Best for developers, architects, platform owners
Take this if: agents must survive a security review and run in production at scale.
Who it's for

The team that owns your Microsoft AI estate.

✓ Right fit if

You're a developer, solution architect, platform owner or technically-strong IT lead in a larger organisation already on Microsoft 365 and Azure. You've outgrown Copilot experiments and need agents that pass a security review. It's a pro-code day, so you should be comfortable reading Python or C#.

× Not the right fit if

Want low-code agents inside Microsoft 365? Take Copilot Studio in a Day instead. Looking for a strategic overview for senior leaders? That's AI for Leaders. After tool-agnostic fundamentals? Start with Build AI Agents.

The day, hour by hour

A build day, not a briefing.

Short, sharp theory blocks; long build blocks. Every module ends with working configuration in your tenant, not notes for later.

09:00–09:45

The Microsoft AI map, settled

Foundry vs Copilot Studio vs Azure OpenAI vs Power Platform. Where Microsoft is taking the platform, what got renamed, and what that means for the workloads you already run.

09:45–11:15

Build 1 · Your first Foundry agent

Foundry Agent Service end-to-end: project setup, model selection and routing, instructions, tools and function calling. Deployed and tested in your tenant before coffee.

11:30–13:00

Build 2 · Grounding on enterprise data

Foundry IQ knowledge bases over SharePoint and OneLake. Permission-aware retrieval, Purview classification, and why "the agent can see everything" is a failed security review waiting to happen.

13:45–15:15

Build 3 · Multi-agent orchestration

Microsoft Agent Framework patterns: supervisor/worker, sequential hand-offs, shared state. Wire two specialist agents to the one you built this morning.

15:15–16:15

Governance, identity & observability

Foundry Control Plane, Entra Agent ID, evaluations, tracing and audit. The artefacts your CISO, DPO and auditors will ask for, built in from the start.

16:15–17:00

The 90-day rollout plan

Rank your candidate workloads, model token costs, agree environment and CI/CD design, name owners. You leave with a plan your leadership team can fund.

Sensible questions

Frequently asked.

What are the prerequisites?

Delegates should be comfortable reading Python or C# and navigating the Azure portal. Your organisation needs an Azure subscription we can deploy into (we'll send a short environment checklist two weeks before delivery). If your team isn't there yet, start with Build AI Agents or Copilot Studio in a Day.

Do we build in our own tenant or a sandbox?

Your own tenant wherever possible. That's the point. Agents grounded in your real SharePoint and data estate, governed by your Purview policies, are worth ten sandbox demos. Where procurement or security can't move fast enough, we provide a pre-configured sandbox and a migration checklist.

Is this Microsoft Official Courseware (AI-3026 / AI-102)?

No, and that's deliberate. Microsoft's official courses (AI-3026, AI-102, AI-103) are generic, certification-oriented and run on demo data. This day is built around your workloads, your data and your governance requirements. If your team also wants certification, the day is a strong practical foundation for the AI-102/AI-103 exams and we'll point you at the right prep.

What does it cost?

Each cohort is scoped individually. The figure depends on group size, delivery mode and how much tenant preparation your environment needs. Book a short discovery call or send us the brief below and you'll have a precise, no-obligation figure within 24 hours.

Microsoft keeps renaming this platform. Will the content be current?

Yes, fair question. Azure AI Studio became Azure AI Foundry in 2024, which became Microsoft Foundry at Ignite 2025. We maintain this workshop against the live platform and refresh it every release cycle, so your team trains on what Foundry is now, not what it was called last year.

Is this levy-funded?

Workshops on their own are typically self-funded. Commissioned alongside an ST1512 apprenticeship cohort or the AI leadership units, it can usually be structured into the cohort spend. Talk to us and we'll work it through.

How many delegates can attend?

Up to 10 per cohort. This is a hands-on engineering day, and smaller cohorts of 5–8 get the most build time per delegate.

How quickly can we run a cohort?

Typically 3–4 weeks from enquiry to delivery, slightly longer than our other workshops, because we run an environment checklist with your IT team first so the day isn't lost to permissions issues.
