Associate project managers need good planning, organisation, leadership, management and communication skills. Projects can be defined and delivered within different contexts, across diverse industry sectors, they can be large or small. Every project needs to be managed to ensure its success. An associate project manager knows what needs to be achieved, how it will be achieved, how long it will take and how much it will cost, and works with the project team to achieve the required outcomes. An associate project manager utilises resources with suitable skills, qualifications, experience and knowledge to work together in a motivated and integrated team, with clearly defined reporting lines, roles, responsibilities and authorities. Dependent upon the size of the organisations and the complexity of projects, associate project managers’ job titles will vary, but typically they can include: assistant project manager, junior project manager, project team leader.
Details of the programme
This apprenticeship usually takes 18 months to complete during which you will participate in training, development and ongoing review activities. This apprenticeship covers the professional behaviours, knowledge and skills that are required of an Associate Project Manager.
Knowledge modules include topics such as:
- Project Governance
- Stakeholder Management
- Project Leadership
- Consolidated Planning
- Resource Management,
- Project Risk and Issue Management
- Project Context
- Budgeting and Cost Control
- Collaboration and teamwork – Understand and be effective as part of an integrated team.
- Leadership – Communicate direction and support the vision for project delivery.
- Effective and appropriate communication – Work effectively with and influence others, taking account of diversity and equality. Influence and facilitate effective team performance.
- Drive for results – Demonstrate clear commitment to achieving results and improving performance.
- Integrity, ethics, compliance and professionalism
As part of the Associate Project Manager apprenticeship, all learners must complete an APM PMQ Qualification.
The Tess Group have been awarded APM Training Provider Accreditation to provide this course.
The End Point Assessment Process
At the assessment gateway, your employer will make the decision that you are ready to undertake the endpoint assessment.
Before going forward for endpoint assessment, you must have:
- Achieved Level 2 English, maths (if not held)
- Met the set skills, knowledge and behaviours of the standard
- Achieved 20% off the job requirement
End Point Assessment
Following successful completion of the Gateway, you will proceed to endpoint assessment (EPA).
The EPA is undertaken by an independent assessment organisation. The End Point assessment components are:
- A knowledge test using scenarios and questions to be completed before End Point Assessment
- A portfolio – this is a collection of evidence from real work projects
- Presentation and interview carried out via a face to face with an Assessor from the End Point
Assessment body, to verify the learner’s knowledge and competence
All components of the endpoint assessment must be completed and an endpoint assessment grade will be determined by the endpoint assessor.
