The Accelerated AI & Automation Practitioner Level 4 is an 8-month delivery of the ST1512 apprenticeship standard, covering the same 11 modules as the standard 15-month route at a pace of two modules per month. It is levy-funded via your DAS (Digital Apprenticeship Service) account at the full £18,000 funding band, assessed by BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, and suits employers who need AI and automation capability across their teams faster, with protected learning time of around 1.5 days per week. Delivered by TESS Group, an Ofsted Good provider rated 4.9/5 from 689 reviews.

Why an Accelerated Route?

Same Skills England standard. Same funding. Same qualifications. Same BCS End-Point Assessment. Just delivered at double the pace.

8

Months, not 15

Gateway and EPA by month 8. Your team is capability-ready in under three quarters rather than stretched across 15 months.

£0

Out-of-pocket cost

Same £18,000 DWP funding band. Accelerating delivery does not change the funding. You already hold the levy, this is just a faster way to spend it.

Module velocity

Two modules a month from month 1 to month 6, then the work-based project, certifications and BCS End-Point Assessment in months 7 and 8. No filler, no wasted weeks.

+

Stretch qualifications

Intensity creates headroom. Strong cohorts can add BCS AI Ethics, additional Microsoft or Google credentials, or NCFE Level 3 Cyber Security Practices on top of the core stack.

Standard vs Accelerated

Both routes deliver the ST1512 standard. The difference is pace and intensity, not content.

Who This Is, and Is Not, For

The accelerated route is deliberately honest. Same qualification, same standard, same rigour, faster cadence. It only works if three things are true: protected time, engaged line managers, and learners who already live in M365 or Google Workspace.

Good fit

  • Learners use Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace daily
  • Employer can protect around 1.5 days per week of study time
  • Line managers are engaged and sign off workplace projects
  • You have candidate workflows pre-selected for automation
  • You want AI and automation capability inside 8 months, not 15
  • Your cohort is motivated by a faster professional credential

Not right for you if

  • Learners are new to Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace
  • Protected learning time is aspirational, not committed
  • Line managers cannot spare time for sign-off conversations
  • Shift patterns or 24/7 operations make weekly study unpredictable
  • You want lighter weekly load over a longer calendar
  • You are still building buy-in at senior level for AI adoption

Frequently Asked Questions

Employer-level questions on the accelerated AI apprenticeship. Want more detail? Book a scoping call.

Is accelerated delivery actually allowed by Skills England?

Yes. Following the apprenticeship minimum-duration reform, the minimum delivery length for 19+ apprentices reduced from 12 months to 8 months. Skills England owns the ST1512 standard and confirms the accelerated route is fully compliant with minimum off-the-job hours, assessment plan, and BCS end-point assessment requirements.

Is the funding still £18,000?

Yes. The ST1512 funding band is £18,000 regardless of delivery route. Levy-paying employers draw from their DAS (Digital Apprenticeship Service) account. SME non-levy employers receive 95% to 100% government co-investment. The learner pays nothing.

Who runs the End-Point Assessment?

BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT. BCS assesses learners on the accelerated route just as they do on the standard route. The professional discussion, work-based project and portfolio review all run to the BCS assessment plan.

How much learning time do apprentices need each week?

Approximately 1.5 days per week of protected off-the-job learning time across months 1 to 6, reducing in months 7 and 8 as the focus shifts to certification and assessment. This is 50% more than the standard 1 day per week, compressed into a shorter calendar.

What qualifications does a learner earn?

Core: Microsoft AI Business Professional (AB-730), NCFE Level 3 certificates in AI Prompt Mastery and Data, plus BCS Foundation Certificate in AI. Strong cohorts can add BCS AI Ethics, NCFE Cyber Security Practices, or platform-specific stretch credentials at no extra funding cost.

Can we mix Microsoft and Google cohorts?

Yes. The programme runs in two editions, Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace, and module 11 (Platform Mastery) aligns to whichever stack your team uses. Organisations with both ecosystems can run parallel cohorts.

What if a learner falls behind?

They step down to the standard 15-month route. The accelerated route is a delivery choice, not a separate standard. There is no penalty and no refund mechanism because the funding band is unchanged.

When can we start?

Accelerated cohorts start monthly. Employer onboarding takes 3 to 4 weeks: scoping call, learner selection, workflow identification, line manager briefing, Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace readiness check.
