Is this a different apprenticeship to the standard AI & Automation Level 4?
No. It is the same Skills England standard (ST1512, AI & Automation Practitioner Level 4), the same programme length, the same end-point assessment, the same levy funding. The difference is curriculum focus: this version teaches every module through Claude and a no-code automation stack rather than mixing tools.
Why choose the Claude version specifically?
Claude is the strongest model for reasoning, writing and analysis, and it is the safest choice for sensitive work because your data is not used to train Anthropic models. It is vendor-neutral, so it complements whatever office suite you already run with no lock-in. MCP connectors and Claude Projects link Claude to your tools and data, and you already trust it: TESS's own Coachy tutor runs on Claude.
Can apprentices run a Claude cohort alongside other toolset cohorts?
Yes, every variant is the same ST1512 standard. Some employers run mixed cohorts (different learners, same standard). We default to grouping by primary toolset for a tighter cohort experience.
Which qualifications are included?
Up to 4 qualifications sit inside the levy band: BCS Foundation Certificate in AI, NCFE AI Prompt Mastery, NCFE Data, and NCFE Cyber Security Practices. There is no Claude vendor certification, so the credential stack is vendor-neutral.
How much licensing do we need to provide?
Apprentices need Claude for Work, Team or Enterprise access (which AI-forward teams that have standardised on Claude already have). For the build modules we provide sandbox access to the automation tools (Make, Zapier, n8n) for the duration of the programme.
How does this compare to a Claude short course?
A short course covers feature awareness in 1-2 days. This is a structured apprenticeship with a portfolio of real workplace projects, end-point assessment, and recognised qualifications. Levy-funded means £0 net cost for levy-paying employers.
Is the 8-month accelerated track available for the Claude version?
Yes, the same 8-month fast-track variant is available, taught entirely through Claude and the no-code automation stack. See our 8-month accelerated AI & Automation page.
What is the distinction rate?
72% of TESS apprentices on AI standards achieve a Distinction grade vs ~20% national average. Distinction rate is the single best provider-quality signal.
Can our HR / Finance / Operations team take this if they do not code?
Yes, that is specifically who the programme is built for. ST1512 is a non-coding standard. Claude is a no-code interface; Make, Zapier and n8n are no-code automation tools. The most successful apprentices are non-technical professionals applying AI to their own daily work.
What is the Claude apprenticeship?
The Claude apprenticeship is the Level 4 AI and Automation apprenticeship (ST1512) taught through Claude. Apprentices learn to use Claude for real workplace tasks and build AI workflows and automations, with recognised qualifications and end-point assessment. It is levy-funded for levy-paying employers.
How long is the Claude apprenticeship?
The standard Claude apprenticeship runs over about 18 months, with an 8-month accelerated track available. Both follow the same ST1512 standard and end-point assessment, taught through Claude and a no-code automation stack.
How is the Claude apprenticeship funded?
It is funded through the apprenticeship levy, so it is zero net cost for levy-paying employers. Smaller non-levy employers are government funded, contributing as little as 5%, and from August 2026 under-25s are 100% funded.
Who is the Claude apprenticeship for?
It is built for non-technical professionals in HR, finance, operations, marketing and leadership who want to apply AI to their own work. ST1512 is a non-coding standard and Claude is a no-code interface, so no programming experience is needed.
